Fair Housing: Confronting Racial Discrimination (NC)

Hours: 4
Category: Elective
North Carolina Real Estate Commission Approved

Fair housing and fair lending in real estate transactions have been an issue since as far back as any of us can remember. Many local, state, and federal regulations have been instituted since the Civil Rights movement in the 60s, but unfortunately, we are still seeing far too much housing discrimination continuing to take place today.

This course will look at the history that has gotten us to this point, the federal regulations that have been enacted to try to curb the practice of discrimination, the possible solutions going forward, and what every licensee can do to make sure they are following the spirit and letter of the law.

The primary focus will be on racial discrimination because that is where we seem to be struggling the most. We will address discrimination based on religion, sex, disability, and national origin also, but a hard look at racial discrimination is necessary in order for us to curb the practice of any housing discrimination.
