Don't Miss the NC Real Estate CE Deadline: Key Dates

When it comes to your North Carolina real estate license, timing is everything. Missing the NC real estate CE deadline can put your active status at risk—and create unnecessary headaches. If you’re unsure when to complete your CE or renew your license, this quick guide will help you stay ahead of the game.

June 10: Final Day to Complete Your CE

🛑 The biggest date to remember is June 10.
✅ You must complete all 8 hours of required CE—both the Update course and elective—by this date every year.
⚠️ No extensions are allowed beyond June 10, no matter what. If you don't complete your CE by this deadline, you won't be able to renew your license as active for the next cycle.

Pro tip: Don’t wait until the last minute! Live Update webinars and elective courses fill up fast as the deadline approaches.

June 11–June 30: CE Blackout Period

If you miss the June 10 deadline, you cannot take any CE courses between June 11 and June 30. This blackout period is enforced by the North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC). During this time, your only option is to pay your renewal fee—but your license will change to inactive on July 1 unless you've completed your CE on time.

June 30: License Renewal Deadline

You must also submit your license renewal by June 30 through the NCREC portal. Even if your CE is incomplete, you can still renew your license, but it will go inactive if the CE isn't completed. Renewal involves logging into your NCREC account and paying the renewal fee.

July 1: New License Year Begins

July 1 marks the start of the new license year. If your CE and renewal were completed correctly, your license will remain active without interruption. If not, your license will either be inactive (CE incomplete) or expired (renewal not paid).

How to Avoid Deadline Stress

  • Finish your CE early—aim for May or sooner.
  • Schedule your Update course early—live spots fill quickly.
  • Verify your CE credits—make sure they are reported correctly in the NCREC portal.
  • Choose a trusted CE provider like Empire Learning to ensure fast reporting and seamless tracking.
