MN Real Estate Continuing Education Requirements: Everything You Need to Know

Navigating your Minnesota real estate continuing education (CE) requirements might initially seem overwhelming, especially with the changing required modules each year. 😊 But staying on top of your CE is key to keeping your license active and your skills sharp. This article will walk through everything you need to know so you can fulfill your requirements, and it even has a FREE CE offer!

What are the CE Requirements?

All Minnesota real estate licenses expire on June 30th in either even or odd years, depending on the year of licensure. To renew successfully, you must complete 30 hours of continuing education (CE) by the license expiration date.

Annual CE Requirements Are Due June 30

Salespersons and Brokers must complete 30 hours of CE for every 2-year renewal period. Each year 15 hours must be completed before June 30. CE hours that exceed 15 hours do not carry over to the following year, so meeting this annual requirement is essential to a compliant renewal.

The exception to this applies to the first June 30 that occurs after you become licensed for the first time or become newly relicensed after your license was inactive for more than two years. Consult the MN Department of Commerce for more detailed guidance.

What Are the Required CE Courses?

All Salespersons and Brokers must complete the following required course topics in the 2-year renewal period:

  • 1 Hour of Agency Law
  • 1 Hour of Fair Housing
  • ANNUAL MN General Required Module (credit hours are determined by the Minnesota Department of Commerce each year)
  • Brokers must also complete a specific broker module when required.

In 2025, the current 7/1/24 - 6/30/25 Salesperson & Broker Required Module: Risk Management and Minnesota License Procedures course satisfies 3.75 credit hours for the general required module and the broker module requirements. Be sure to enroll and complete this course as a part of your 15 hours of continuing education this year.

In 2024, the 7/1/23 - 6/30/24 Salesperson & Broker Required Module: Fair Housing, Agency Law, & Legal Update course satisfies 3.75 credit hours for both the general required module and broker module requirements AND includes the 1-hour requirement of both Agency Law and Fair Housing.

For those who work only in commercial real estate, you may be exempt from the agency, fair housing, and specific module courses, but you must still meet all other CE requirements. Check details on the MN DOC CE Requirements page to confirm.

What CE Courses Do I Need to Take in 2025?

If your license expires on 6/30/2025, do not duplicate any courses on your transcript from last year. Also, ensure that you already completed the 2024 required module. If you still need to complete this course, we have a solution for you, so keep reading!

If your license expires on 6/30/2026, complete this year's required module at a minimum of required courses. The remaining hours may be in Agency Law, Fair Housing, and/or elective course topics.

  1. Verify your expiration date. Log into Pulse Portal to verify your expiration date and completed credits on your CE transcript.
  2. Enroll and Complete 15 hours of CE.
  3. Confirm your CE credit completions in your Pulse Portal account.
  4. Alert your broker once you’re done, so they can facilitate your renewal by June 30 if this is your renewal year.
