Who Needs to Renew Their Virginia Real Estate License?
All active and inactive sales agents and brokers must renew their licenses every two years on the last day of the month of initial licensure.
What Are the Virginia Real Estate Continuing Education (CE) Requirements?
Sales agents must complete 16 hours of continuing education, and brokers must complete 24 hours.
All licensees who renew before June 30, 2026 must complete 3 hours in Ethics and Standards of Conduct, 2 hours in Fair Housing, 1 hour in Legal Updates and Emerging Trends, 1 hour in Real Estate Agency, and 1 hour in Real Estate Contracts. Brokers must also complete 6 hours in Broker Management and 2 hours in Broker Supervision. The remaining hours may be in electives or any other course topic.
Inactive licensees are not required to complete continuing education to renew.

When Is Virginia Real Estate Continuing Education Due?
CE must be completed by the expiration date of the license. Allow time for your provider to report completions to DPOR.
How Can I Check My Virginia Real Estate License Renewal Deadline?
Your expiration date is printed on your license and can also be confirmed using the DPOR license lookup website. Renewal notices are mailed 60 days before expiration, but you are responsible for renewing on time even if you do not receive the notice.
How Can I Complete My Virginia Real Estate Continuing Education?
Courses may be taken online or in person through Board-approved providers.
