Who Needs to Renew Their Texas Real Estate License?
All active and inactive Sales Agents, Supervising or Sponsoring Sales Agents, and Brokers (including Designated Brokers for business entities) must renew every two years. No exemptions apply.
What Are the Texas Real Estate Continuing Education (CE) Requirements?
For second and subsequent renewals, all active licensees must complete 18 hours of continuing education, including 4 hours of TREC Legal Update I, 4 hours of TREC Legal Update II, and 3 hours of contract-related coursework. The remaining course hours may be in elective or any course topic.
The following licensees must also complete the 6-hour TREC Broker Responsibility Course:
- Brokers who sponsor one or more sales agents during their current license period
- Designated brokers who sponsor one or more sales agents during their current license period
- Sales agents who are delegated supervisors of one or more license holders for a period of six months or more during the supervisor's current license period
Inactive licensees are not required to complete continuing education to renew, and may not practice real estate..
