After their first renewal, all licensees are required to complete 18 hours of continuing education biennially by the expiration date shown on the face of the license issued to the license holder. The education must consist of 4 hours of Legal Update I (Laws, Rules, and Forms), 4 hours of Legal Update II (Agency, Ethics, and Hot Topics), and 3 hours of contract-related coursework.
Post-License Requirements - Sales Apprentice Education
Texas sales agents renewing for the first time are required to have a total of 270 qualifying real estate course hours. Note that the 180 hours submitted to obtain your license and any additional qualifying courses you have completed go towards the 270-hour total. The additional 90 hours are called Sales Apprentice Education (SAE). Empire Learning does not currently offer SAE courses. In addition to the 270 qualifying course hours, sales agents are required to complete 4 hours each of Texas Legal Updates I and II (totaling 8 hours). If your broker has made you a supervisor, you must also complete the 6-hour Broker Responsibility course. Empire Learning offers both Legal Update courses and the Broker Responsibility course.
