Who Needs to Renew Their South Carolina Real Estate License?

All active Salesperson, Broker, and Broker-in-Charge licensees must renew their real estate license by June 30 every two years.

What are the South Carolina Real Estate Continuing Education (CE) Requirements?

  • Salesperson and Broker licensees must complete 10 hours of CE. This must include the SCREC mandatory 4-hour Core course, SC Core (24-26) Legal Hot Tips.  Empire Learning does offer the full 10-hour renewal package for licensees in South Carolina!
  • Broker-in-Charge licensees must complete 10 hours of CE. This must include the SC REC mandatory 4-hour Core course, SC Core (24-26) Legal Hot Tips and the BIC Duties and Responsibilities course. Empire Learning does not offer the BIC course.

When is the South Carolina Real Estate Continuing Education Due?

Continuing education must be completed before June 30 of the license expiration year.  Make sure you complete your courses with enough time for schools to report your completion to CE Broker and for you to renew your license with the State.

Are There Any New Updates to the Continuing Education Requirements in South Carolina?

Yes, in June, 2024, there were two changes made to the Real Estate Practice Act:

  • Carryover of elective hours: Brokers and associates that take more than the required number of continuing education hours during a two-year period may now carryover up to four hours of elective courses to the next renewal period. (Section 40-57-340(C))
  • Removal of nonresident CE exemption: Nonresident licensees are no longer allowed to use their resident jurisdiction’s continuing education to satisfy South Carolina’s CE requirements. This exemption, found in the previous version of the Real Estate Practice Act at Section 40-57-340(B)(1)(c), was removed with the 2024 update.  (Section 40-57-340(B))

This is My First Renewal As a Salesperson in South Carolina. What Do I Need to Do?
First renewal CE requirements are the same as for subsequent renewals: complete 10 hours of CE including the current required 4-hour SC Core (24-26): Legal Hot Tips. Then renew your license by June 30 of your license expiration year.

How Do I Know Empire Learning Is an Approved Provider in South Carolina?
To view Empire Learning on the list of Providers, go to the SCREC Continuing Education website and click on "Approved Courses" and click on "Document 151." Providers are at the end of the list and Empire Learning is Provider 1021.

How Does South Carolina Verify My CE Completion?
All providers in South Carolina are required to report course completion to CE Broker.  You may login to your CE Broker account to verify your course completions.  To create an account or login with CE Broker, go to SCREC Continuing Education page and click on "Reporting Continuing Education." This is not the SCREC website so make sure that once you verify your course completions on the CE Broker website, you can then renew with SCREC.  Scroll down for renewal instructions.
