Who Needs to Renewal Their Ohio Real Estate License?

All active Ohio Salespersons and Brokers are required to renew their real estate license every 3 years from their license expiration date.  

What are the Ohio Real Estate Continuing Education (CE) Requirements?

Ohio real estate Salespersons and Brokers must complete 30 hours of approved continuing education triennially by the license holder's date of birth. The education must consist of at least: 3 hours of Civil Rights, 3 hours of Core Law, and 3 hours of Canons of Ethics.  Active Brokers are also required to complete 3 hours of Broker responsibilities. The remaining 21 hours for Salespersons and 18 hours for Brokers can be in any elective or required topics. 

All active license holders who are 70 years or older on their license renewal date are only required to complete three mandatory courses, totaling nine hours, in Civil Rights, Core Law, and Ohio Canons of Ethics. Furthermore, active brokers and those at the management level are required to complete an additional 3-hour course on Broker Responsibility.

When is the Ohio Real Estate Continuing Education Deadline?

How can I check My Ohio Real Estate License Expiration Date?

How Can I complete my Ohio Real Estate CE?

CE courses in Ohio may be complete live in person in a classroom or webinar, or online.  All providers and courses must be approved by the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Real Estate.

I am a newly licensed Salesperson in Ohio. What do I need to do?

Newly licensed Salespersons in Ohio have 3 due dates when issued a license: 

  • First-year renewal: A fee of $182 is due on your first birthday following licensure. If you were licensed within 60 days of your birthday, double-check your due date as it may be your second birthday following licensure.  are required to complete a 20-hour Post-License course during the first year of licensure.
  • 20-Hour Post License Education must be completed one year from the date your license was first issued. Email your certificate to PostCert@comn.ohio.gov on or before your due date. Empire Learning does not offer this course.
  • Third Renewal: Three years from your first-year renewal, you must complete the 30 hours of continuing education and then renew with the State online.   

I am a newly licensed Broker in Ohio. What do I need to do?

Newly licensed Brokers in Ohio are required to complete a 10-hour Post-License course during the first year of licensure.  Empire Learning does not currently offer this course.  

How do I know that Empire Learning is an approved provider in Ohio?

To verify our approval and see a list of our approved courses, go to the Ohio Division of Real Estate CE Class Search and drop down the Provider field to "Empire Learning, LP (Online)."

How does Ohio Division of Real Estate Verify My CE Completion?

All schools are required to report course completions to the Ohio Division of Real Estate. Empire Learning reports course completions every business day. To view your CE records with the State, log in here.

Renewal Information

After completing the continuing education requirements, licenses can be renewed online up to 60 days before the license expiration date at the Ohio Division of Real Estate eLicense Center.
