New Mexico Real Estate License Renewal Requirements

 Who Needs to Renew Their New Mexico Real Estate License?

All Associate Brokers and Qualifying Brokers must renew their license every three years in New Mexico on the last day of the month following the licensee's birth month. Brokers are exempt from CE if they were 65 years of age and had 20 continuous years of licensure prior to July 1, 2011.   

What Are the New Mexico Real Estate Continuing Education (CE) Requirements?

With the exception of the first renewal for Broker licensees, all licensees must complete three consecutive years of core classes. Associate Brokers must complete 36 hours of CE within the 3 year license term.  Qualifying Brokers must complete 42 hours of CE within the 3 year term and attend at least one Commission Meeting, Rule Hearing, or Disciplinary Hearing.  Here is the breakdown of the required courses:

  • Associate Brokers must complete 12 hours of Core Classes (one 4-Hour Core Class per year), 4 hours of Ethics Class, and 4 hours of Core Electives. The remaining hours may be in elective courses or any course topic. 
  • Qualifying Brokers must complete 12 hours of Core Classes (one 4-Hour Core Class per year), 4-Hour Ethics Class, 8 hours of Core Electives, 6-Hour QB Refresher (and attend at least one Commission Meeting, Rule Hearing, or Disciplinary Hearing). The remaining hours may be in elective courses or any course topic.
  • *Associate Brokers and Qualifying Brokers offering residential property management services are required to submit the following in addition the the mandatory requirements above as a part of their CE total hours: 6 hours of Residential Property Management Uniform Owner-Resident Relations Act, 6 hours additional Property Management Courses, and attend up to 4 hours of Commission Meeting, Rule Hearing, or Disciplinary Hearing per renewal.  
  • **Associate Brokers & Qualifying Brokers offering commercial property management services are required to submit the following in addition to the mandatory requirements above: 10 hours of Commercial Property Management - CCMM101 OR 6 hours of Zen & the Art of Property MGMT, 6 hours of additional Property Management courses, and up to 4 hours of Commission Meeting, Rule Hearing, or Disciplinary Hearing per renewal.

This is my first license renewal as a salesperson. What do I need to do?

All new Associate Broker licensees must complete either the 30-Hour New Broker Business Practices or the CCIM 101 course within 1 year of licensure. Empire Learning does not offer these courses. The commission-approved New Broker Business Practices course may count for up to 10 hours of CE. How Does New Mexico Real Estate Commission Verify My CE Completion?

Education providers are required to report course completions to NMREC.  Empire Learning reports all course completion credits to NMREC every business day. Please allow up to 2 business days for credits to appear in your account.

What required courses does Empire Learning offer for my New Mexico Real Estate License?

Residential Property Managers: are required to take a 6-hour New Mexico Uniform Owner Resident Relations Act (NM UORRA) CE class once every three years. Empire Learning does not offer this course. In addition, Qualifying Brokers must take 12 hours, and Associate Brokers must take 6 hours, of approved property management CE classes every three years. Empire Learning's 8-hour Property Management Fundamentals course qualifies towards this requirement.

Renewal Information

Licensees will receive an email from NMREC approximately 2 months before their license expiration date with renewal instructions.   Once all CE courses and Commission meeting attendance requirements have been met, license renewal applications must be submitted online at the NM-PLUS website.

The fee to renew a license in New Mexico is $270, and the late renewal fee is $810 so be sure to complete your renewal requirements and renew your license on time to avoid the late renewal fee.
