Who Needs to Renew Their New Mexico Real Estate License?
All Associate Brokers and Qualifying Brokers must renew their license every three years in New Mexico on the last day of the month following the licensee's birth month. Brokers are exempt from CE if they were 65 years of age and had 20 continuous years of licensure prior to July 1, 2011.
What Are the New Mexico Real Estate Continuing Education (CE) Requirements?
With the exception of the first renewal for Broker licensees, all licensees must complete three consecutive years of core classes. Associate Brokers must complete 36 hours of CE within the 3 year license term. Qualifying Brokers must complete 42 hours of CE within the 3 year term and attend at least one Commission Meeting, Rule Hearing, or Disciplinary Hearing. Here is the breakdown of the required courses:
- Associate Brokers must complete 12 hours of Core Classes (one 4-Hour Core Class per year), 4 hours of Ethics Class, and 4 hours of Core Electives. The remaining hours may be in elective courses or any course topic.
- Qualifying Brokers must complete 12 hours of Core Classes (one 4-Hour Core Class per year), 4-Hour Ethics Class, 8 hours of Core Electives, 6-Hour QB Refresher (and attend at least one Commission Meeting, Rule Hearing, or Disciplinary Hearing). The remaining hours may be in elective courses or any course topic.
- *Associate Brokers and Qualifying Brokers offering residential property management services are required to submit the following in addition the the mandatory requirements above as a part of their CE total hours: 6 hours of Residential Property Management Uniform Owner-Resident Relations Act, 6 hours additional Property Management Courses, and attend up to 4 hours of Commission Meeting, Rule Hearing, or Disciplinary Hearing per renewal.
- **Associate Brokers & Qualifying Brokers offering commercial property management services are required to submit the following in addition to the mandatory requirements above: 10 hours of Commercial Property Management - CCMM101 OR 6 hours of Zen & the Art of Property MGMT, 6 hours of additional Property Management courses, and up to 4 hours of Commission Meeting, Rule Hearing, or Disciplinary Hearing per renewal.
