Who Needs to Renew Their Connecticut Real Estate License?

All active and inactive real estate salespersons and brokers must renew their license every two years in even-numbered years. This includes referral licenses. Salesperson licenses expire on May 31, and broker licenses expire on November 30 of even years. 

What Are the Connecticut Real Estate Continuing Education (CE) Requirements?

Salespersons and brokers must complete 12 hours of continuing education every two years. This includes a 3-hour mandatory course concerning current fair housing legislation, license laws and regulations. and 9 hours of elective real estate courses. As an alternative, licensees may take and pass the 40-question Connecticut CE Examination through PSI instead of CE.

Referral agents are not exempt from continuing education, and no licensee is grandfathered out of CE requirements.

When Is Connecticut Real Estate Continuing Education Due?

The CE deadline is 3 months before the renewal deadline. Salespersons must complete CE by February 28, 2026. Brokers must complete CE by August 31, 2026. Courses taken late may not be applied to the current cycle. Courses may only be completed once in a renewal cycle.

Are there any specific requirements for Connecticut regarding continuing education?

Yes. If a licensee fails to complete CE by the required CE deadline, late CE completion requires a fine. The penalty fee is high if CE is completed within two months after the deadline, and increases if completed within four months. Failure to complete CE entirely may result in civil fines and suspension or revocation of the license.

What is required for the first license renewal as a salesperson in Connecticut?

If you passed the Connecticut licensing exam during your first renewal cycle, you are not required to complete CE until your second cycle. However, if you obtained your license through reciprocity, you must complete 12 hours of CE before your first renewal.

Brokers who passed the Connecticut licensing exam in their first cycle do not need to complete CE until their second cycle, though they must still renew their license by the expiration date. Brokers licensed through reciprocity must complete the full 12 hours of CE before their first renewal.

How Does Connecticut Verify My CE Completion?
