Alabama real estate licensees, both active and inactive, are required to complete 15 hours of approved continuing education biennially by September 30th of even-numbered years.
All licensees, Salespersons and Brokers, are required to take the 3-hour Risk Management course.
Associate and Qualifying Brokers are also required to complete a 3-hour Mandatory Broker CE course.
Empire Learning offers full continuing education 15-hour packages for Salespersons, Associate Brokers, and Qualifying Brokers!
Salesperson Post-License Requirement
A 30-hour Post-License course must be completed by all new Alabama licensees to receive your original Salesperson license. The good news is this course will also meet your first CE renewal requirement! Unfortunately, Empire Learning does not offer the Post-License education course at this time.
Broker Pre-License Requirement
If you completed the 60-hour Broker Pre-License course between October 1, 2022 and September 30, 2024, it will provide all 15 hours of CE required for the next license period. So no additional CE needed, you are good to go!
How to Reactivate an Inactive Licenses -
If your license is not renewed by September 30, it will move to inactive status on October 1 and you have one year to reactive an inactive license. In order to reactivate an inactive license, a total of 15 hours of continuing education must be completed and the CE credits must be reported to the AREC; then you may reactive your license online with AREC.
It's important to remember that with an inactive license, you're prohibited from performing any real estate sales or brokerage activities.
Please note: While you have the opportunity to reactivate your license online up to one year following its expiration date, if you let more than a year lapse since the expiration, renewing won't be an option. Instead, you'll have to reapply to obtain your Alabama real estate license anew.
AREC Rule states: "A total of 15 hours of approved continuing education must be completed to activate an inactive license when the license is activated for the first time in a license period. An additional 15 hours of approved continuing education coursework must be completed to renew the license on active status for the next license period."
